Pallisa District Metropolitan WhatsApp Group was started to discuss different issues that concern their area and look for solutions. As the Teso region continues to be the epicenter of Covid19 in Uganda, there was a need to do something.
Alex Opolot, Chairman Pallisa District Metropolitan WhatsApp Group says Members started discussing the scarcity of personal protection gear for health workers.
“We started to fundraise for this cause which we have finally fulfilled”, said Opolot.
Dr Florence Achanit, heading the Pallisa Medical Team received the personal protection equipment and doses of drugs that can serve 300 Covid19 patients.
Augustine Okudek a member of the WhatsApp group said they don’t form groups for fun but use them to have a social impact on others as well.
Achanit said they have been experiencing challenges most especially with supportive drugs.
“With this donation from Pallisa District WhatsApp Group our problem has been sorted”, Achanit said.
She said these drugs are going to push us for a month without any alarm and it’s going to reduce stigma from patients who could not afford to buy prescribed drugs in pharmacies.
Dr David Okoth , the Medical Superintendant pf Pallisa General Hospital said the donation from Opolot’s Group is going to ease the equipping of the covid19 male ward which was identified as the most affected.
