Dr Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health says Uganda has enough Covid19 vaccines to everyone. I urge all eligible Ugandans to visit the nearest designated vaccination point and get vaccinated.
She said; ” Covid19 vaccination campaign for the last 6 months was focusing on specific groups but now that vaccines have become more available, we are opening up to everyone to get vaccinated.”
Ministry of Health is opening up to everyone to get vaccinated and also appeal to the leaders to mobilize and rally people to go and get vaccinated.
“This war will not end, economies will not safely open, children will not safely go back to schools, unless we vaccinate our population”-Dr Diana said.
She said this at Entebbe Airport while receiving the first batch of 196,800 doses of the Johnson and Johnson (J & J) vaccine procured with funding from the Government of Uganda.
Government has ordered a total of 9 million doses of J & J vaccines through AVAT/African Union to the tune of UGX 290Bn to vaccinate 9 million people. These vaccines will be delivered in a phased manner to support the ongoing mass COVID-19 vaccination program.
Financing Government has released a total of UGX 120Bn to Ministry of Health and National Medical Stores for the procurement and handling of vaccines as broken down below;UGX 55.8Bn disbursed as down payment to access the J & J vaccine.
Additionally, UGX 50.4Bn has been released to procure 2,060,400 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine expected early December 2021 as part of the order of 17,829,400 doses that Uganda placed with COVAX Facility.
We are in the process of transferring the remaining funds as vaccines are availed to the country. This vaccine will be administered as a single dose to the priority population groups who have NOT received any COVID-19 vaccine to-date.
