PALLISA MUSLIMS TOLD TO EMBRACE GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS

Muslims in Pallisa district have been told to embrace government programs, form savings and credit cooperative organizations (SACCOS) and register to benefit from the parish development model program in order to improve household incomes.

This was during a futari (feast for breaking fasting) organized by Kevin Kaala Ojinga, the woman Member of Parliament for Pallisa district at her home on the eve of Eid-al-Fitri.

About 2,000 guests out of expected 7,000 attended amidst heavy rains.

Kaala said she had initially bought 2,000 kilos of rice for distribution to Muslims but decided to organize the evening get together feast.

The workers member of parliament, Abduluh Byakatonda and Faith Nakut Loru, the Napak district woman member of parliament also addressed the clerics during the auspicious fete.

Byakatonda tipped the Muslims on how to form SACCOs while Nakut appealed for unity among Muslims after Ramadan.

“We are out to inform you that we are going into difficult situation as the cost of commodities is high and people cannot afford. While meeting President Yoweri Museveni as NRM caucus, he told us that COVID-19, elections and the Russian war with Ukraine is  affecting us, so, we need to help each other,” Nakut explained.

He advised that people should stop buying luxuries and consider basic requirements like salt, soap and medical treatment.

Byakatonda who thanked Kaala for organizing zadakh said Islam has been a pillar in business and Muslims should redeem their business glory which will enable them pay zakat.

“If you are a Muslim and you cannot help the needy by paying zakat then your faith is questionable. So, do not take a back seat,” Byakatonda stressed.

She encouraged Muslims to take girl-child education seriously because when she was rewarding 97 primary school leavers who got division one last year only one was a Muslim.

Umar Nduga, the Pallisa district Muslim supreme council secretary thanked Kaala for identifying with them by organizing such a wonderful dinner that allowed them to get information from members of parliament- Nakut and Byakatonda.
