Oyam district has supported the production department with procurement of 11 motorcycles worth sh55m.
The funds were allocated from the central government transfers under the discretionary equalization grants.
John Gutenberg Ogwang, the secretary for production in Oyam district said five of the motorcycles were given to production officers at the sub-counties while the remaining six were given to staff in the district’s offices.
He explained that they were optimistic that this will improve the level of provision of extension services to the farmers and productivity of the staff, especially in the sub-counties of Myene, Ngai and Aber.
These sub-counties had only one motorcycle each that were being shared by all the staff of production department hence it has been affecting their field movements.
Benson Dila, the LC5 chairperson of Oyam district however, cautioned the beneficiaries against misuse of those motorcycles, saying anyone who does so will be punished.
He urged the officers to use the motorcycles to mobilize community for the parish development model program and other government programs.
Dila also encouraged farmers to use the second season rains to grow more food crops in order to combat the food insecurity at households.
