Over 90 Village Health Teams in Biiso Sub County Buliisa district Bunyoro subregion Western Uganda have been trained on how to conduct mass treatment of community against trachoma disease.
The training was successfully concluded yesterday (Thursday). The three day training that started on Tuesday was held at Biiso Primary school in Biiso town council Buliisa District
Denis Oyewa the Sub County Coordinator of Neglected Tropical Diseases NTD who presided over the training said the training was meant to enable the VHTs understand on how they will register and update the names of the family members in their registers.
Oyewa said that, the ministry of health carried on the survey in Bunyoro Sub region and found out that, there is still trachoma existence among the community members and hence resuming the treatment.
The Coordinator asked the community to embrace in the registration exercise to enable them identify the exact number of people to be treated.
The mass treatment of trachoma is to start very soon on 11th and will end on 13ththis month.
Samuel Echon one of the VHTs from Busingiro parish said since they have been fully trained, he asked his fellow VHTs to ensure that they do what they have been taught to enable them deliver good services to the community as it is required.
Joy Kusemererwa also a VHT appreciated the efforts the ministry of health is injecting in ensuring citizens are disease free. She noted that some people would not afford the expenses for the medication.
