Orom East sub-county in Kitigum district has topped in performance during the accelerated mass vaccination campaign recently launched by health minister, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng in Acholi sub-region.
Information from the district health department indicates that Omoro East sub-county achieved 96% target followed by Lagoro with 65.9%, Labongo-Amida west with 64.8%, Lalano with 63.3% and central division with 56.2%.
A total of 49,053 persons were vaccinated within the solitary week of mass vaccination that ran from November 24 to December 1, 2021 raising Kitigum district total coverage from 43.6% to 59%.
Christopher Obol Awuiri, the Kitgum LC5 chairman conveyed compliment to the local councilors and political leaders for mobilizing the people for the Covid-19 vaccination.
But while the data shed limelight on the top performers, it also revealed poor performers in the mass vaccination.
These were the sub-counties of Kitgum-matida with 35.9% percent, Labongo-Layamo with 29.9%, and pager division with 28.9% and Pandwong division that only manage 23.2% vaccination.
Since the first reported case of Covid-19 in Kitgum in early 2020, a total of 5,727samples have been collected and tested using PCR and rapid diagnosis of which 19,694 turned positive.
The district has registered 17 cumulative deaths from Covid-19 and the current positively rate stands at two percent.
