NDA CLOSES 110 DRUG OUTLETS, ASSORTED DRUGS IMPOUNDED IN AN ENFORCEMENT OPERATION

National drug authority (NDA) held an enforcement operations on drug outlets in Acholi sub region northern part of Uganda to ensure compliance to national drug policy and authority act and licensing guidelines.
An operation held from 13th to 16th September 2021 in a routine post market surveillance intended to protect the public from consuming damaged drugs, and health care products that are substandard, counterfeit, and unauthorized on the market as well as dangerous practices include unqualified person handling drugs, untied premises among others.
The national drug authority in the enforcement they were tatting only those with licensed outlets, manned by qualified personnel that national drug authority can guarantee the safety for the quality of medicine.
Abiaz Rwamwiri the public relations officer articulate that this enforcement operations conducted in eight district in Acholi region include Amuru, Gulu, Omoro, Lamwo, Agago, padre, Nowoya, and Gulu city.
Abiaz added that during an operation conducted 248 drugs outlets were inspected including one pharmacy, 232 drugs shops (225 human, 7 vet) and 15 clinics with which 110 drugs outlets visited were closed and 184 boxes of assorted drugs with estimated amount of Ugx 55,200,000 were impounded pending for verification.
Samuel Kyomukama head of enforcement revealed that the enforcement was due to the follow up enforcement operations which was conducted last year in October 2020 results from operations indicates a positive trend in term of increasing complained to National Drug authority (NDA) licensing guidelines.
Dr Kaggwa David the area manager northern region advised all drugs operators outlets whose out let’s have been closed and those drugs have been impounded to report to ( NDA ) at regional office in Lira for guidance on complained requirement.
David however appealed to public to be vigilant and report any drugs outlets that do not comply with standards on drugs operators to distant them self from such acts, he while applauded medical authorities for the enforcing the operations.
