Norah Bigirwa Nyendwoha, the Woman Member of Parliament for Buliisa District, has rewarded 37 best performers in last year’s Primary leaving examinations with mattresses, blankets, books and suitcases.
She said her input will lift off some of the burden on the shoulders of parents, limiting them to concentrate on looking for school fees.
The tokens are also aimed at encouraging better performance by challenging other pupils to concentrate on studies.
Nyendwoha asked parents, guardian and caretakers in Buliisa district to join hands with teachers to improve the academic performance of their children.
Since 2016, Bigirwa has been awarding the students who get first grade in Buliisa district.
According to Godfrey Abigaba, the head teacher of Asaba Model Nursery and Primary School, the MPs intervention would have a positive bearing to improve the candidates’ performance in the district by motivating the learners to work hand.
“Since some learners are from poor families, this encourages them to perform better thus reducing the cost of procuring scholastic materials,’’ he noted.
Abigaba applauded the woman member of parliament for always supporting the education sector in Buliisa district.
Margret Asiimwe, a parent whose child benefited from the awards, also appreciated the politician saying that she has saved her a lot of costs ahead of the reopening of schools on January 10, 2022.
