After realizing the need to improve on emergency medical services in his constituency, Allan Atugonza, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Buliisa constituency has unveiled brand new ambulance.
“It has come from the bottom of my heart to procure the ambulance to save lives. We cannot be losing lives yet we can actually supplement on government’s effort,” he said.
The MP added: “Before joining politics I realized there was need to support government after I got an ambulance stuck at Butiaba escapements along Biiso -Wanseko road at 3:00am, I helped them and saved life of a mother who was heavy and heading to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for delivery.”
He asserted that his action (buying an ambulance) was a clear indication that leaders need to support the government in all ways to save lives, mostly during this hard moment of coronavirus pandemic which has hit the health system in the entire world.
Atugonza indicated that he has compassion for his people who need services, adding that during the campaign for the primary elections, Buliisa district didn’t have an ambulance after the one they had was on breakdown.
“I believe the ambulance has come timely and it will traverse the entire district, evacuating patients to different health facilities for treatment. I will sit with my people and see how the ambulance will be managed,” Atugonza said.
The ambulance has cost over sh100m and the politician explained that he will be catering for its maintenance while its serves the emergency needs of the people.
“My priorities differ from those of other leaders but there is need to give a helping hand to our people and support the ministry of health during this trying moment,” he noted.
He urged the people to continue adhering to standard operating procedures through maintaining social distancing, sanitizing and washing hands and wearing face-masks while in public.
The new ambulance brings to two, the total number of ambulance in Buliisa district.
