MOTHERS, ARMED FORCES, AND HEALTH WORKERS STOOD OUT IN 2021, TWO YEARS AFTER COVID19 BROUGHT THE WORLD TO ITS KNEES

By Enid Ahumuza
Finally, 2021 is gone!
Hurray, What a Year!!
The world nearly brought to its knees by covid-19, whether by design or nature, it showed us that we all are because others are too.
This got me thinking, who are the icons of our country, whose lives are because we ARE!?
Our mothers topped the list, followed by our armed forces, and health workers in that order.
Society is corrupted by the capitalist mentality of me, me, and mine, and we think we can live and thrive with test-tube babies, robot soldiers, and un-manned weapons, but can we really thrive in isolation from each other as the human race?!
Until that debate is settled, let’s all stand up for the three critical pillars of our society.
Our mothers, the irreplaceable, indefatigable, brave warriors that are mother’s, the souls that will do absolutely anything to protect their offsprings, raise a glass or a bowl to the strength of a woman, and be kind to women in the year 2022.
A hug for each one of you that lost a mother in this covid-19 pandemic, I know how you feel, life won’t be the same, but there will be laughter, after this cloud.
And to our armed forces, the selfless men and women that brave our worst, as we run for cover, or away from danger as they run towards it. The souls, that leave loved ones behind, whose families grow up without them, because they are on duty.
The ones that stand all day on guard or in our traffic, the officers and men that secure us and other nations, while we critique their every action and inaction, the person’s that see our worst as humans-The armed forces…
Whose lives are because we ARE!? you are appreciated… Salute to UPDF in Somalia, in South Sudan, in CAR, in DRC, we are very proud of your patriotism.
And lastly to the medics, those sober faces that we turn to at our hour of need, seeking assurance and hope in hopeless situations, the men and women t that see us at our ugliest and still care!!
What would humanity be, without you?
You have shone as stars during this pandemic, you have sowed hope, even when you were out of options, you have braved the pandemic, You are true warriors, and humanity is because you are.
And to you all that brings tears to these three categories, May 2022 be your worst year.
A Great New Year to you all.
Enid Ahumuza.
