Ministry of health is making plans to elevate Nyabirongo Health Center IV to a hospital following the construction of three new wards at the Kasese based health facility.

Located in Kisinga sub-county, the ministry of health has just completed the construction of the maternity, male, and female wards after spending unspecified amount of money,

Kasese district has Bwera as the only government hospital in the district supplemented by two hospitals-Kagando and Kilembe Mines-under private partnership giving health services to the locals.

Abel Kule, the chairperson of the health centre management committee for Nyabirongo Health Center IV said that early this year, they received a delegation from the ministry of health who revealed to them that the facility had been included on the list of health centres that would be upgraded to hospitals.

“The formation structures for a hospital status are being prepared,” Kule confirmed.

Rhoda Nyanjura, a female councilor to the sub-county, described the Nyabirongo health Center IV as a blessing to the people of Kisinga.

She said that since the facility started giving free health services to the community, the challenge of maternal and infant mortality have been addressed.

Speaking to our reporter, the Kisinga sub-county Chairperson, Julius Mukeri, commended government through the ministry of health for always equipping the health facility with medical equipment.

Mukeri said they are hopeful that the health centre will be elevated after his council made recommendations to the ministry of health and have since received positive feedback.

“We are happy with the way services are being offered at the health centre even when the health center was registering huge numbers of patients. The health workers have always attended to them and there is always medicine in the stores,” he said.

He also applauded the medical staff who have continued providing health services to the patients amidst fears of the Covid-19 pandemic.
