MASINDI: TUESDAY, AUGUST 17, 2021
Residents in Masindi district have expressed their appreciation towards their members of parliament for procuring ambulances and emergency vehicles.
The four members of parliament from Masindi collectively procured three ambulances and four emergency vehicles which have started evacuating patients to different health facilities for medical services.
Vincent Mugisa, a resident of Nyangahya Division said that they have been spending a lot in hiring private vehicles to evacuate patients to Masindi district general hospital.
He expressed relief that the ambulances and emergency vehicles will reduce the cost for transporting patients.
His gratitude was reechoed by Morris Barole, a resident of Bwijanga sub-county who said because of the long distances they have been trekking, many patients more especially expectant mothers have been at risk of losing their babies or lives while on transit.
According to Barole, some expectant mothers had shunned visiting health facilities and opted for traditional birth attendants who are easily available within the community due to the challenge of transport.
Suzan Bahebwa Sabila, another resident said the ambulances will help pregnant women from far flung areas to reach the health centres.
She added that by opting to buy ambulance, the MPs have demonstrated that they care about the lives of the people and deserve their support in return.
For Sylivia Karungi, the Masindi district secretary for social services, the acquisition of the ambulances is timely, especially for the hospital that receives several cases in need of referral to Hoima.
