MAGYEZI HAILS ACHOLI PARAMOUNT CHIEF FOR FIGHTING COVID-19

Raphael Magyezi, the Minister for Local government has applauded His Highness David Onen Acana II, the Acholi paramount chief, for playing a vital role in fighting the surging cases of coronavirus in Acholi sub-region.

Magyezi, echoed his appreciation during a courtesy visit to the paramount chief at Ker Kwaro Acholi Palace in Bardege Layibi division, Gulu city.

The minister said that the government is aware and acknowledges the efforts made by the paramount chief in mobilizing and guiding the people in the region, in taking the necessary precautionary measures to abide by the standard operating procedures.

In her latest national up-date on Covid-19, health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng listed three districts in Acholi sub-region – Nwoya, Amuru and Gulu- as hotspots with increasing new infections.

Rwoth Acana assured minister Magezi that fighting Covid-19 Pandemic was his priority because it has had a negative impact on social aspects of life, especially teenage pregnancies, business and others which needs collective effort from everybody.

He added that later this year, he  will be meeting with all the  leaders of the districts in Acholi to also chart a way forward on other socio-economic challenges including the alarming sales of land, alcoholism and deforestation and the resolutions made will be presented to the government for possible actions.

The paramount chief however, tasked the minister to involve the traditional chiefs in Acholi in the ongoing Parish development model programme so that they can mobilize their subjects to embrace the programme.

Magyezi said the government will offer full support and work closely with the office of the paramount chief to ensure proper implementation of the government programmes in the region.
