KITGUM PRISON PRIMARY SCHOOL SET FOR REOPENING

As learning institutions prepare for the resumption of classes next week, Kitgum prison primary school in Kitgum Town has not stood by.

The school is a mixed day primary school with 1,214 pupils before the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country in March 2020.

It has six teachers on parents-teachers association (PTA) payroll, 12 teachers on government payroll and four support staff.

Benson Aleng, Head teacher of Kitgum prison primary school, explained how well they are prepared to welcome their pupils back.

“I have done training for my staff and distributed scheme of work and lesson plan to enable them prepare. We have more than 10 hand washing facilities, five temperature guns, enough sanitizers, spacious classrooms and clean toilets,” said Aleng.

He also expressed his happiness towards government decisions of reopening schools.

Ronald Tookwiny Arima, a teacher in Kitgum prison primary school, said he is well set to start conducting lessons on Monday January 10, 2022.

He also added that they received training on how to welcome their pupils and he is done with arranging scheme of work and lesson plans.

Rafael Robert Okema, a primary four pupil in Kitgum prison primary school, said he is so much happy to come back for school life because while at home garden work was very draining.

For Florence Atim, a primary three pupil in Kitgum prison primary school, schools reopening is a chance to play with friends, read books and interact with teachers.

“I have been working too much at home. I want to get back to school to play with my friends and meet my teachers again,” the youngster said.
