KINYARA SUGAR DONATES FOOD, PPES TO MASINDI PRISONERS

MASINDI: MONDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2021

Kinyara Sugar Limited has donated relief food and personal protection equipment to Masindi Prison.

The donation is part of the company’s continued quest to promote healthy well being in the community during these unprecedented Covid-19 times.

The items that were to benefit the prisoners included hand-washing facilities, liquid soap, bar soap, sugar, maize flour and face masks worth sh8.5m.

Ravi Ramalingam, the General Manager Kinyara Sugar limited handed over the items to the Regional Prisons Commander, Francis Xavier Elubu.

Also present was the Masindi Resident District Commissioner, Rose Kirabira and other officials from the prison and Kinyara Sugar Limited.

Ramalingam said Kinyara Sugar ltd is a community entrenched organization that understands the plight of the various groups including the prisoners.

“So, this was an opportunity to continue improving livelihoods in our community, an undertaking that we are passionate about,’’ he explained.

Elubu on behalf of the Prisons Service appreciated Kinyara Sugar ltd for the gesture saying that it was a timely donation in the continued fight against the pandemic that continues to disrupt the country.

He added that given the tough economic situation and their meager operational resources, it was a major boost to them in ensuring that prisoners in their custody keep safe and healthy.

On her part, the RDC lauded Kinyara Sugar Ltd as a key socio-economic player in Masindi district and Uganda promoting sugarcane production and manufacturing sugar thereby providing thousands of jobs to the people.

“And wherever they are called upon for support in various community livelihood enhancement activities, the responses are always positive,’’ Kirabira said.

Richard Mathias Wanok the Corporate Communications Manager, Kinyara Sugar said that from a responsible business point of view and the prevailing Covid-19  pandemic that continues to be a threat to humanity, they felt it necessary and compassionate to be a part of the pursuance to savings lives.

He added that this is premised in Kinyara Sugar ltd’s value system and continued commitment to enhancement of community’s health and well being given their pertinent contribution to the sugar value chain.
