Kikuube district in Bunyoro sub region has received 96,500 doses of the oral polio vaccine ahead of the mass vaccination commencing on Friday and ending on Sunday January 16, 2022.
Peter Byaruhanga, the District Surveillance Focal Person, said that the vaccination exercise will target children from 0-5 years of age.
‘’We intend to vaccinate over 70,000 children in the entire district in three days. The vaccines are safe and free,’’ he asserted.
Hector Tibeihaho, the Exercise’s Supervisor from the ministry of health presented the major objective of the vaccination as to prevent further spread of the virus especially in young children.
He pointed out that Uganda has over 8.7 million children under 5 years of age who need to be protected from the virus.
The district LC5 chairperson, Peter Banura, urged parents to embrace the exercise, and also take it serious especially now that most children are going to be vaccinated from home.
‘’Since its door to door exercise, parents need to embrace it for the safety of our children,’’ he appealed.
The district boss also implored the medics to give in their best especially while in the field, pledging to give them total support during the immunization.
Florah Mpabaisi, the sub county chief of Buhimba Sub County, called for information sharing in regards to the exercise to enable the public to acknowledge what is taking place to ensure all children below five years are vaccinated.
