Local leaders in Busongora North County, Kasese District have launched a go-back to school campaign ahead of the official reopening on January 10, 2022.

Daniel Kambale, the Local Council III Chairman for Rugendabara–Kikongo Town Council says they are using churches, funerals and wedding events to sensitize the masses about the need to embrace the reopening of schools and ensuring that all learners return to school.

Kambale says emphasis is being placed on teenage girls that have since been impregnated.

Learners have spent about two years redundant after schools were closed to curtail the spread of Covid-19.

Yusuf Katenene, the Local Council III Chairman of Kitswamba Sub-county noted that they have already embarked on a door to door sensitization campaign to meet the learners and the parents together.

He however cited the need for the government to establish more government-aided institutions in the area since the entire sub county has only three government-aided primary schools thus compelling learners to trek long distances to attain education.

Judith Twikirize , the Deputy speaker for Mubuku Town council says that they have secured some kind of assistance in form of pads to the young girls who are from the less disadvantaged families as one of the mechanisms to influence them go back to school.

Meanwhile, the Management of St. Philips Kihyo Anglican Church of Uganda in Kasese district will among others prioritize education in 2022.
