KOTIDO: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2022
A Karamoja musician has extended food assistance to the people of his home area known as Kadoca village, Nakapelimoru sub-county in Kotido district.
The musician, Maxwell Aleper a.k.a Evy Treyz, said his people had started going to beg for food in Kotido town prompted him and his family to intervene.
He said the cause of lack of food in his village is insecurity as they boarder the Turkana region of Kenya.
“Insecurity made my people to abandon their garden works and seek for safety. They were becoming beggars in the town,” he said of the situation.
Aleper organized some of his colleagues who are working in town who responded positively and put together their little resources to help their people.
Among the responders were Sophie Kapel an entrepreneur, peace Kapel, a principal town agent in central division in Kotido and Jonathan Kapel, a human resource officer in Kotido district.
They gave each house hold 3kg of beans, 5kg of maize flour, half liter of cooking oil and a sachet of salt.
Aleper called upon all other Karimojong people working outside the region to always check on their relatives in the villages and extend to them assistance.
He said they should not only wait for government intervention which may take long to reach every house hold that may be affected.
Kotido district one was of the districts in Karamoja affected by starvation arising from a combination of poor rainfalls and insecurity that hampered food production.
A relief food distribution intervention by the government through the office of the Prime Minister is underway, targeting some of the most vulnerable households.
