In a bid to improve access to clean water in Hoima City, Hon Asinasi Nyakato the Woman Member of Parliament for Hoima City is rehabilitating water sources.
The politician has so far rehabilitated twelve boreholes and four spring wells among others.
Hon Nyakato explained that she has decided to embark on rehabilitating water sources to improve on access to clean water in Hoima City since many of the water sources were not functioning, and some people can’t afford taped water.
In addition, she also told our reporter that some parts of Hoima City don’t have taped water since Hoima has been just elevated to City status.
The MP contended that the rehabilitation of water sources will solve the challenge of people traveling long distances to access clean water.
“It is not my role to rehabilitate water sources but I’m happy because people are now accessing clean water,” she said.
The rehabilitation has already cost her at least sh10m but Hon Nyakato assured that she is targeting to construct and revamp at least 100 safe water sources before her term ends.
“I will cooperate with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation to ensure that tap water is extended to other parts of Hoima City,” she added.
The Member of Parliament is using her own money to rehabilitate water sources in the City. She says access to clean water will prevent the outbreak of diseases such as typhoid, diarrhea, and others thus saving lives in the City.
