HOIMA: WEDNESDAY, 24 NOVEMBER 2021
The Ministry of Health has said the mass vaccination for children aged five and below against the deadly strain of polio virus circulating in the country will be done in December 3-5, 2021.
The mass vaccination, which will be house-to-house, comes after the government received 10 million doses targeting 8.5 million children.
In Hoima district, over 65,800 children in the 13 sub counties will be immunized.
The assistant district health officer Nazareth Kabagenyi, says immunisation is a preventive measure against a new strain of a polio virus.
Uganda was declared polio free in 2010, but a recent environmental survey at Lubigi sewerage plant identified another polio virus in various samples.
Kabagenyi has asked local council III chairpersons to mobilise communities to embrace the exercise.
Jamil Kasangaki, the LC3 chairperson of Buhanika Sub County says the district health department is involving all leaders from the Local Council one level in the immunization exercise.
