Asinasi Nyakato, the Hoima City Woman Member of Parliament (MP) has spent the sh200m that was advanced by the government to every MP to buy vehicles for their transportation to instead feed the constituents and buy an ambulance.
She said the move serves her electorate better than her driving around in a salon vehicle.
So far, Nyakato has procured 20 tons of posho, 1,000 litres of liquid soap, 10,000 face masks, and 10,000 bunches of matooke worth totaling to sh50m and distributed them to the people she said are her needy electorate.
The recipients include the People with Disabilities, bodaboda riders, drivers, pregnant mothers, religious leaders, saloon operators and the elderly people who are 70 years and above.
“Our people need aid because Coronavirus has paralyzed all businesses. While distributing the relief package, I realized our people need help. I’m planning to procure more relief package for my people because what I have donated is not enough,” she explained.
Nyakato disclosed that she has already paid sh120m for a well-equipped ambulance which will boost mobility of patients in the constituency during emergency.
The ambulance would be under the management of Hoima City health department.
The MP asked the people to adhere to the standard operating procedures, noting that Coronavirus pandemic is a deadly contagion.
