GULU: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2021
Gulu University has instituted strict enforcement of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) to protect students and staff.
Right at the entrance gate, Susan Aciro, a student pursuing bachelor degree in education disclosed that students are not allowed to enter the campus without putting on masks.
Same restriction is observed at the library and the lecture rooms where students sit two persons per desk.
Aciro highlighted that students are very happy for the reopening of the school and are showing total commitment in class.
Patrick Kabwizam who also is pursuing bachelor degree in education, explained that students are being checked by the university security before entering on a daily basis while visitors and staff are registered at the gate and their temperature measured as a precautionary measure.
He however disclosed that some stubborn students are ignoring the SOPs by not washing hands regularly, hand shaking and not social distancing.
The University Guild president, Herbert Ayiko, commended the University for accepting to provide avenues of vaccination for the students to protect against Covid-19.
Ayiko said once the vaccines are availed, he will make sure that the information reaches to all the students so that everybody is vaccinated and safe.
Mahmoud Khalid, the Gulu University spokesman attributed the swift enforcement of SOPs to early preparation to meet the safety guidelines issued by the ministry of health and higher education council.
He said prior to the reopening of the University, 400 members of teaching and non-teaching staff were vaccinated against Covid-19, many of whom have since taken in their second dose.
