RUBANDA: Thursday, August 05, 2021
The number of Covid-19 cases in Rubanda district has sharply increased by 20% a few days after the President Yoweri Museveni relaxed the lock-down restrictions.
This is according to Dr. Abdon Birungi, the Rubanda district health officer, who attributed the rise in infections to reluctance of the people to observe standard operating procedures.
The district has registered 46 Coronavirus cases in less than one week up from 23 in the week before lifting lock-down, bringing a total of 231 cumulative cases in the district.
The most affected sub-counties are Bufundi, Hamurwa and Nyamweru.
Dr Birungi warned the public to use this partial lock-down while respecting all health measures to win over the pandemic.
The Rubanda resident district commissioner and the Covid-19 task-force chairperson, Peter Rwakifari Kibondo, told our reporter that the district task-force has given sub-county task-forces two weeks to traverse their areas.
They are to assess the level of infection and sensitize people on the continuous observation of standard operating procedures against Covid-19.
He warned that if people in the hot spot sub-counties continue to disregard standard operating procedures, the district task-force would tighten lock-down rules in those hot spots.
At least six people have succumbed to Covid-19 in Rubanda district since May this year.
