CHARLES NIWAGABA APPOINTED RETURNING OFFICER FOR MAKERERE UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC STAFF ASSOCIATION ELECTIONS

Makerere University Academic Staff Association elected Associate Professor, Charles Niwagaba as its Returning Officer for the election of MUASA Executive 2022-2024. Others are are Dr Robert Gumisiriza, Dr Charles Kyasanku, Dr David Mpiima and Ms Monica Naluwooza.

Dr Charles Niwagaba said Makerere University promotes values of democracy through participation of both staff and students in its decision making. Each two years, the University hosts elections for a number of staff and student positions on governance bodies to ensure that all perspectives are considered.

“the General election period is held from January to Febuary  and elections take place as required depending on the regulations governing each individual body and position. A Returning Officer is appointed to oversee the conduct of each election”, Dr Charles Niwagaba said.

Makerere University Academic Staff Association(MUASA) leadership is there to rejuvenate the struggle for improved welfare for the staff.

Deus Muhwezi Kamunyu has been chairperson of the association for two terms. MUASA brings together over 1500 lecturers of Makerere University, has been struggling for the wellbeing of staff and advances other causes of academia including defending humanity.

“By advocating for increasing for welfare and motivation of staff, we are also indirectly impacting on our students,” he said.
