Following the ongoing struggle between government and teachers to get covid19 vaccination exercise targeted to be covered before schools reopens, authorities in Bukedea district have registered positive progress of teaching being vaccinated.
Geofery Okiswa the resident district commissioner Bukedea who doubles as chairperson covid19 task force says out of one thousand seven hundred teachers in the entire district, a total of one thousand have been vaccinated and only seven hundred have not been vaccinated.
Mr. Okiswa says the district received 1930 doses of AstraZeneca whereby 1170 doses have been used leaving only 760 doses unused.
“Iam seeing we are in good progress on teachers vaccination, we have 1700 teachers in entire district and 1000 has been vaccinated, its only 700 teachers which are not vaccinated and I hope within a short time all the remained teachers would be vaccinated”, said Okiswa.
However, despite fear amongst teachers and some political leaders who are not yet vaccinated the covid19 jab, Okiswa cautioned politicians to be exemplary so as to lead others to get vaccinated.
“I want to request out politicians who fear getting vaccinated to go for vaccination and let our people go for vaccination”, said Okiswa.
Stephen Ikodet the district health officer bukedea says the progress of covid19 vaccination mostly on teachers is due to continued sensitization of community on radios.
