Newly elected leaders of Acholi West Districts Bodaboda Forum have tasked Bodaboda Riders in Acholi sub-region to spend the money they make from transporting passengers to educate their children.

Acholi West Districts Bodaboda Forum was formed through Electoral College on Saturday last week, by the Executive Committees of Bodaboda operators from the districts of Gulu, Amuru, Nwoya, Omoro and Gulu City.

The forum is a regional body of Bodaboda riders formed to create peace, unity and cooperation and also to ease coordination of Bodaboda riders within the region.

David Komakech, the Chairperson of the forum, said that majority of people think Bodaboda work is for hooligans and wrongdoers.

He said the only way Bodaboda riders can justify their innocence and prove people wrong is by prioritizing and spending their money on the education of their children.

Komakech, who also doubles as the LC5 Councilor for Palaro Sub County in Gulu District, said they will soon introduce school fees loans to support their members, clear the fees of their children and allow the loans to be paid back later with some small interest.

Francis Rubangakene, the head of disciplinary committee of the forum, welcomed the idea, stating that they have a huge task of changing the mindset of some of their colleagues who are extravagant in order to succeed in the campaign.

Godfrey Ojok, a member of the forum, said his fellow Bodaboda riders would not be struggling to look for money to pay their children because they get money daily but only lack saving culture and organizing financial literacy training would help a lot.
