ABIM DISTRICT TO HOST 2022 KARAMOJA CULTURAL GALA

Ethur music fraternity will perform at the Karamoja cultural gala

ABIM: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10, 2022

Abim district will host the 2022 Karamoja cultural gala which is aimed at promoting cultural norms, practices and bring the young generation to term with their traditional heritage.

The event will take place at Abim secondary school from August 30 to September 3, 2022.

Organizers have said that there will be presentations on the history of the Karimojong in comparison to the current situation.

Expect plenty of Karimojong traditional foods and folk songs and dance by tropes from the districts of Kotido, Abim, Kaabong, Moroto, Karenga, Napak, Amudat and Nakapiripirit.

It is the seventh time such a gala is organized in Karamoja. The theme for this year’s event is “the role of culture and traditional mechanism in steering peaceful Karamoja.”

Yuventine Adyeda Omara, the Abim district LC5 chairman has assured the people that his district is well prepared to welcome visitors for the gala.

He reiterated that the cultural rendition will help to transform the youth in Karamoja by allowing them to know more about their treasured culture.

He added that it will be a rare opportunity for the educated Karimojong who have no time to cook traditional foods to learn the art and desist from first foods of the modern times.

Omara urged the people from different tribes to come in big numbers and witness the pride of Karamoja land as many things will be displayed alongside entertainment.

Plenty of traditional dance performances will be on display

He disclosed that the district is expecting visitors to come from as far as Ethiopia, South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania and the neighbouring tribes including Teso, Acholi and Lango.

“We want to bring all Karamoja people together and promote peace with neighboring districts like Kitgum, Agago, Kumi , Otuke and so on, “ he said.

Allan Ojok, a community advocate in Abim district, thanked the leadership in Karamoja for organizing such event that would give them chance to know and learn more about their culture.

“We shall also use this opportunity to show our visitors the hidden cultural practices that may not be known to them but are useful to us,” Ojok said

James Tumwashilaku, the Abim resident district commissioner, has assured the people of security, saying that every step is being taken to ensure that the event runs smoothly.

Tumwashilaku said visitors will enjoy their time Abim district and go back with very positive memories of Karamoja.
