Vaccination Against Coronavirus Resumes In Kabarole, Fort Portal

AstraZeneca vaccines are a cornerstone of Uganda’s inoculation strategy

FORT PORTAL: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18, 2021

Vaccination exercise resumed Tuesday in Fort Portal and Kabarole districts after receiving 1,544 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine. The vaccines were received on Thursday last week.

According to Dr. Steven Muhenda, the Fort portal City health educator, the vaccination is being done at five health facilities.

These are Fort Portal Regional referral hospital, Bukuuku HCIII, Kiijura HCIII, Ruteete HCIII and Mucwa HCIII.

Dr. Muhenda said that those that are due for the second dose will be accorded first priority. He estimated the number to be slightly over 5,000 people.

He added that they will also consider Health workers who are getting their first dose because they are front-line workers and stand a higher risk of contracting Covid-19.

At Fort portal regional referral hospital, 304 people were vaccinated on Tuesday and the exercise is proceeding well according to medical sources there.

Both the city and Kabarole district have received a total of 9,094 doses of covid-19 vaccines to-date.
