SOROTI: MONDAY, AUGUST 30, 2021

The Soroti University in Soroti district has vaccinated 200 of its staff and students against Covid-19.

This is after the University received 200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the Ministry of Health last month.

Hassan Juma Nyene, the Soroti University Spokesman said they are in need of more vaccines to inoculate over 50 students who missed the jabs.

Soroti University has about 250 students and 50 members of staff.

“The 200 doses are over, we are now appealing to Ministry to help us with more vaccines because many of our staff and students have not received their second jabs and others have not even got the first jab,” Nyene said.

He disclosed that on Covid-19 management, the University has managed to prevent the spread of the virus.

“We haven’t received any case here and we are appealing to the members of the public to always follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” he added.

Nyene urged all head teachers of schools in Soroti to work with the School Management Committees to ensure that their schools follow the SOPs for safe reopening and operation of schools.

He also urged the government to continue prioritizing the vaccination of teachers and to provide the necessary support in terms of human and financial resources for the urgent vaccination of the teaching and non-teaching staff and learners at specific venues.
