The Rwenzururu Kingdom is seeking partnership with the Ministry of Health to promote various aspects of disease prevention such as immunization, good sanitation and hygiene practices among other health programs.
In early 2020, the Ministry of health signed Memorandum of Understanding with a section of Kingdoms including Buganda, Tooro and Bunyoro to promote health programmes.
The Rwenzururu Kingdom located in Kasese district was not among the monarchies that signed the partnership deals.
Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Joseph Kule Muranga, said when given chance, his kingdom would accord maximum cooperation to ensure that the health status of its people is improved.
“I appeal to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwine to consider the Kingdom of Rwenzururu for a partnership. This will formalize our relationship and promote the health sector,” he said.
The premier said that the Kingdom has the manpower to complement the human resource of the health sector operating in Rwenzururu but they need a formal deal in order to coordinate properly.
He also said that the Kingdom would champion health programs in the mountainous areas since it is well versed with the challenging terrain.
Muranga added that they would use the advantage of the Chieftains and Ridge leaders to carry out sensitization programs initiated by the ministry of health.
