Landlords whose houses have no latrines in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality are at a risk of being arrested and subsequently prosecuted in the courts of law.
The Division Chairperson, Pimako Kasereka, said that he was giving the landlords two months within which to construct latrines at their rentals and homes.
He sounded the warning shortly after a participating in a communal activity of cleaning some of the streets in the division.
Also present were the division councilors and civil servants who joined the residents in the drive to keep Nyamwamba clean.
Kasereka ordered the Health Inspector and his team to begin impromptu visits to the different homes so that those who might be found with no are woken up to construct them before it is too late.
Lillian Kisembo, the Senior Assistant Town Clerk for Nyamwamba Division, explained that on top of their failure to acquire building plans, some stubborn landlords have also allowed tenants to occupy their buildings before constructing latrines.
Mary Consolate Kabugho, the area Health Inspector, appealed to the population to put in place everything that is needed to maintain health and sanitation.
According to her, over 80% of the diseases that affect the population are as a result of people living in unclean environments.
