MBARARA REGIONAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL SEEKS SHS500M TO INSTALL OXYGEN PLANT IN NEWLY CONSTRUCTED COVID19 ISOLATION UNIT.

Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital leadership is seeking for Ugandan shillings 500Million to install an oxygen plant in the newly constructed Covid 19 isolation unit.

The newly constructed covid 19 isolation unit that has a capacity of 52 beds will not only help in the treatment of covid 19 patients but it will be handling patients with other infectious diseases such as Ebola among others.
Dr. Celestine Barigye the hospital director addressing the media yesterday at the facility noted that the isolation unit is set to see it’s first covid 19 patients though they please to the government to install an oxygen plant in a bid to beat oxygen shortage.
The health expert further noted that since the hospital is growing, they would even want the government to allocate them the land that is adjacent to the hospital to cater for it’s expansion.
“In this 21st century, the hospital needs to be modern and even cater for the growing number of patients as we prepare for the next generation” he added.
Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital is a 460 bed capacity hospital that serves the south Western region of Uganda, comprised of 12 districts and one city and it provides specialised services such as eye ,ear, nose and throat ,cancer, dialysis , intensive care, emergency medicine among others.
Barigye further expressed worries on the delay  of disbursement of covid 19 vaccines by National Medical Stores since the hospital has spent two weeks without vaccines.
The hospital director told journalists that hospital has so far managed 1,397 covid 19 patients since the pandemic outbreak, admitted 645 patients, discharged 410 patients and registered 193 covid 19 related deaths ,964 in home based care, currently the hospital has 08 covid 19 patients and 42 patients in the home based care.
Relatedly ,the state minister for Primary Health Care in the ministry of Health, Hanifah Kawooya yesterday assessed covid 19 response at Mbarara regional referral hospital and commended the hospital development in as far as covid 19 treatment is concerned.
Minister Kawooya who was in company of the Emmanuel Ainebyoona promised the hospital management that the ministry through the National Medical Stores (NMS) they will soon disburd covid 19 vaccines .
On the issue of the hospital expansion, Minister Kawooya noted that she will address the matter to the cabinet thus championing the elevation of the hospital status to a national referral status.
