Teachers from Kakiika and Kakoba the former Divisions of Mbarara City have today turned up in big numbers at Ntare School for their first inculcate of corona virus jab.
Mbarara City has only one vaccination centre.
A total of 2,572 teachers and 150 support staff from 102 primary schools are expected to get their first jab of corona virus. By this morning, 560 teachers had got their jab.
Mugisha Keirukye the head of health services Mbarara City told westniletodaynews.comreporter they received 1,381 doses of Sinovac and it is meant to cover primary teachers as learning institutions nears reopening.
Keirukye noted that the exercise which started today in the two former divisions of Mbarara city will run for three days and they are expecting to vaccinate 500 teachers on daily basis.
He further said that the opportunity is open for all the teachers from both private and government schools in Mbarara city ,and other teachers from tertiary Institutions will follow the later.
Mugume Lauben the coordinator Mbarara city head teachers called upon teachers in Mbarara city to embrace this program noting it’s the only way to have schools reopened.
The government of Uganda through the ministry of health is rolling of vaccination of teachers from both private and government schools. Recently the minister for education and sports Janet Museveni asked teachers across the country to get vaccinated to secure their jobs.
This is done to contain the spread of the deadly corona virus which has hit the entire health system in the world, the government of Uganda is sourcing for more vaccines to ensure the citizens are vaccinated against the virus.
