Health authorities in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality have condemned the manner in which some residents have opted to emptying their latrines into public
Mary Consolate Kabugho, the Division’s Health Inspector says the act exposes the lives of many people to some health hazards.
Her remarks follow an incident that happened yesterday morning where one Matafali Kabiira, a resident of Kitooro cell had emptied her latrine, leaving the wastes to flow into the community. The wastes with a bad smell also crossed to the neighboring Mumbuzi cell.
The incident attracted the attention of the residents who asked their leaders to intervene into the matter and discipline the perpetrator.
The Health Inspector immediately warned the residents against the ordinary means of emptying their latrines and advocated for the use of a cesspool emptier.
Isaya Thembo, the area chairperson for Kitooro cell and his Mumbuzi counterpart, Samson Mutahunga, said it was not the first time for Kabiira to empty her latrine and expose the wastes to the public.
When contacted, Kabiira accused her fellow residents of blocking the corridor where the cesspool emptier would pass to access her home. She, however, asked for forgiveness from the leaders and residents saying she will never repeat the act.
