The Gulu City Resident City Commissioner, Denish Odwong Odongpiny has cautioned teachers who do not want to get vaccinated against Covid 19 during this time when the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports is planning to reopen learning institutions..

Odongpiny noted that teachers must get vaccinated since they can easily transmit the virus to the children at learning institutions. “It will be to the disadvantage of a teacher who fails to get in because he or she will not be allowed to report back for duty at any school within the city or country,” he noted.

The presidential representative says this warning serves to make all teachers within the city of Gulu and other neighboring districts to take the precautions and go to the different designated vaccination centers for teachers, and get the vaccinated.

This warning comes after the presidential directives that all teachers must get vaccinated so as to allow them report for duty ahead of reopening of learning institutions across the country.

On the same note, Odongpiny has called upon the health workers who have not got their Covid 19 jab to get their doses since they are also at risk of contracting the virus.

Government of Uganda proposed to reopen schools in two weeks’ time, with the lower primary of P1 to P3 as well as Senior One and Senior Two students given priority after the closure of learning institutions in June for the second time in a year to stop the spread of Covid – 19. Gulu received 2,760 doses of Astra Zeneca 2760, and 2,318 doses of Sinovax 2318 totaling to 5078 doses.
