EXPANSION OF BIISO HEALTH CENTER IV FITTING IN HEALTH NEEDS OF PATIENTS AND COMMUNITY

By Pascal Onega

The Government of Uganda provided funds through Ministry of Health to construct an Out Patients Department at Biiso Health Center IV located in Buliisa district that has helped patients have a decent waiting room.

Peter Otim, the In-charge Biiso Health Center IV says before patients had no waiting room for out patients as they could find shelter under trees or verandas of other structures within the compound.

“Sunshine, rainfall were affecting patients hence discouraging
some patients to attend the health facility at certain hours of the day, with the New OPD everything has changed positively”, said Otim.

Otim said the waiting room will help their clients to fill at home as they wait for the services from the health workers.

Health systems have to be responsive to the health needs of the patient and the community. The major beneficiaries of a good healthcare system are clearly patients.

Actually, it is difficult to measure patients’ satisfaction and responsiveness of health systems directly. It importantly depends on the clinical outcomes of patients from health care treatment received.

The In-Charge said the Construction of the OPD waiting room was
funded by the Ministry of health with support from [RBF] Result Best
Funding’s through the Government of Uganda in supporting the best
performing health facilities in Bunyoro sub region.

Biiso Health Center IV was named among the best health facilities in Bunyoro sub region.

“This will help us identify the patients who have been worked on or not since they receive a lot of patients even from outside the district coming for health services”, said Otim.

Patient satisfaction with seeking health services is considered as one of the necessary outcomes of health system and measures of health service quality which is directly linked with utilization of the services.

Dr Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health says Government will continue to improve health centers so that patients and their caretakers get the best satisfaction. Most health centers are being upgraded to suit population increase.
