In 2018, the country woke up to devastating news involving landslides that had razed communities in Bududa district killing 46 people, destroying close to 200 homesteads and thousands of people were displaced internally. President Museveni ordered for resettlement of 3,000 people to the district of Bulambuli in Eastern Uganda.
Dr Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health earmarked shs1.7 billion which she passed over to Uganda Red Cross to construct a facility at level of Health Center III following guidelines given by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni that each subcounty must have such facility.
Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda travelled to Bunambutye subcounty in Bulambuli district to commission a new health center III that is serving host communities and over 1,000 households that were resettled by the Office of the Prime Minister after devastating landslides.
“I thanked Uganda Red Cross for properly using Government of Uganda funds provided through Ministry of Health to build a good facility at Bunambutye Subcounty. We appreciate this partnership between Ministry of Health and Uganda Red Cross that has improved services to our people”, said Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja.
She added that government of Uganda intends to scale up health services and other social services in Bunambutye subcounty to ensure the resettled people continue with improved lives better than before the landslides.
President Museveni directed Office of the Prime Minister to coordinate all agencies of government to budget for services under their dockets so that the displaced people don’t miss out on any service. Ministry of Health has fulfilled its part.
Robert Kwesiga , Secretary General of Uganda Red Cross appreciated the Prime Minister of Uganda for gracing the occasion and her office that lead the relocation of the Bududa families. He appreciated Ministry of Health for trusting Uganda Red Cross with a huge responsibility that directly touches the lives of people.
Bunambutye Health Center III has an Out Patient Department Block, General Maternity ward, twin staff house, block of 2 stance VIP lined pit latrine, 2 blocks of 4 stance VIP lined pit latrines, gate house, incinerator, placenta pit, medical waste pit, paved compound and walk ways , fenced health facility , staff quarters, staff gate and solar lighting system.
