Adjumani District Set To Pay Covid-19 Allowances

ADJUMANI: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 04, 2021

The Adjumani district will pay Covid-19 allowances to the village health teams and LC1 chairpersons next week, Chief Administrative Officer Michael Wanje has confirmed.

He said the delay to release the funds was due to the inability by the district to access all the sh84m required for the payment since Adjumani district uses the integrated financial management system that he added, limits the district to only withdraw sh40m every month.

“The best option could be making payments through the beneficiaries’ bank accounts but most of them do not have bank accounts,” he said.

There are 209 villages in Adjumani district, each of which was allocated sh400,000 as per the guidelines for the emergency supplementary funds circulated to all districts, municipalities and cities by the ministry of health.

“This cash is now ready for disbursing,” Wanje said.

The disbursement of the allowances will start on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 and the leaders of the district Covid-19 task-force will supervise the exercise.

Adjumani district received a total of sh236m from central government for facilitating Covid-19 response.

However the officials at the sub counties are wondering why they were excluded from the emergency response fund budget yet they also conducted meetings and carried out Covid-19 related activities.
